The Offside Project

The Offside Project is an oral history project about transmasculine experiences in football. A series of 20 filmed semi-structured conversations about football were presented at an exhibit in Leeds, alongside events and a panel on trans accessibility in sports. The raw interviews are available at The Otherness Archive, and the panel is uploaded to youtube (see below).

The 20 conversations have related to the personal stories of the individual players (ranging from complete beginner to professional), as well as different perspectives on what people may need in order to build inclusive environments, and why being trans offers a potential wealth of important challenges and insights to how we've historically built our spaces. Recordings will be archived with Otherness Archive (OA), Bishopsgate Institute, and West Yorkshire Archives.

The Offside Project was presented at Centre For Live Art Yorkshire from July 21st-22nd, 2023.
